VTMX TEST BEGINNING 05/24/2000 Eleven portable meteorological stations (PWIDS) were fielded for the test. At each location, data were sampled every second, averaged over a sixty second interval, and then transmitted to a CP point via a radio link or simply saved on storage modules. All of the stations were located in the Salt Lake City area. Specific locations of the stations are given below: Site JL (01)....Roof of the old Salt Lake County Jail. Site MG (02)....Memory Grove. Site CA (03)....Roof of the Capitol Administration Building. Site QB (04)....123 South 200 East (east of Questar Building). Site HW (05)....321 South 200 East (east of Heber Wells Building). Site AB (06)....300 South 40 East (in front of Amerasia Building). Site GC (07)....200 South 65 East (north of Gallavan Center). Site BB (08)....341 South State St. (south of Brighton Bank). Site CT (09)....300 South 139 East (in front of Cineplex Theater). Site RM (10)....265 South 200 East (in front of Russon Mortuary). Site LF (11)....Jordan Land-Fill. The data files are named by a two-character test name, a two-charater station name, and a four-digit Julian date. A break-down of a typical data file named VTJL0145.DAT follows: Station name (station JL in this case) | | -- VTJL0145.DAT -- ---- | | | | Name of test (VT for VTMX) Julian date (00145 in this case) Data are divided into nine columns and are easily imported into a spreadsheet. Column one is the station identifier (station name or location). The Julian date is saved in column two. Column three is the time in local time coordinates (MST). Column four is the seconds of the minute. The fifth and sixth columns are wind speed (meters per second) and wind direction, res- pectively. Columns seven and eight are temperature (Centegrade) and humidity, respectively. A sample of the data follows: JL 145 1500 0 3.576 349.7 23.9 13.16 JL 145 1501 0 3.762 358.4 23.88 13.1 JL 145 1502 0 3.88 346.2 23.86 13.27 JL 145 1503 0 3.38 338.9 23.86 13.48 JL 145 1504 0 3.311 338 23.92 13.21 JL 145 1505 0 4.252 335.7 23.94 12.77 JL 145 1506 0 3.889 349.9 23.94 12 JL 145 1507 0 4.281 341.3 23.97 12.73 If any questions arise concerning the meteorological data collected, please contact the Dumbauld Meteorological Center at the following numbers: (801)831-5006, DSN 789-5006 (801)831-5496, DSN 789-5496 (801)831-5101, DSN 789-5101 PROBLEMS or CONCERNS: 1. The first PWIDS station (JL) was installed on 05/24/00 (00145). 2. The second and third PWIDS stations (MG & CA, respectively) were in- stalled on 06/08/00 (00160). 3. The fourth PWIDS station (QB) was installed on 07/20/00 (00202). 4. The fifth and sixth PWIDS stations (HW & AB, respectively) were installed on 08/24/00 (00237). 5. The seventh, eighth, nineth, and tenth PWIDS stations (GC, BB, CT, & RM, respectively) were installed on 10/03/00 (00277). 6. Data were extremely intermittent and mostly non-existent beginning on day 09/03/00 (00247) and extending to day 09/10/00 (00254) for all the PWIDS stations, and especially station six. 7. Due to the orientation of several solar panels or their shadowed location, battery charging was less than optimal. This resulted in loss of data at sev- eral locations throughout the duration of the test.
